I've been working for SLC for about 6 years. I originally joined the organisation as a Senior Java Developer and have worked my way up to my current role. My technical speciality is Java and I have been primarily involved in the design, development and support of SLC's customer facing web applications..
The role of Lead Technical Consultant is exciting and varied, no 2 days are ever the same.
So what does my role involve? As a Lead Technical Consultant I am heavily involved in the design and requirements gathering process for both new applications and enhancements to existing systems. This involves working closely with developers, systems analysts and business representatives to deliver high quality solutions..
In addition to design responsibilities, I am also involved in the day to day delivery of projects, liaising with and supporting developers with problems and investigating production issues and performance problems.
Another key role we perform in the TS&A team is selection and evaluation of technologies and tools used throughout the department to ensure that we use the best tools for the job. As a lead member of the Java development group within SLC, I am also involved in driving forward improvements to our processes and mentoring other developers.
Working at SLC has given me real opportunities to build and develop my skills and gain excellent exposure to the design, delivery and maintenance of enterprise applications.
