What’s the job?
The Head of Apply Delivery leads and is accountable for the delivery and support of all systems covering the Apply elements of the Student Loans Company Process, primarily the policy, strategy and CI teams for Customer Portal, and the Courses Management Service (CMS). This includes:
- delivery of the APRA change programme (the annual project commission from the Department of Education)
- the provision of a continuous improvement capability covering both business and technical enhancements
- BAU support within defined SLAs
- delivery and support of additional strategic initiatives as agreed within the Technology Group
The APRA programme is a combination of policy driven change (enhancing existing products and introducing new products in line with government direction), strategic technical enhancements and upgrades (including uplift of legacy platforms, migration to the cloud) and customer driven enhancements.
Delivery is through a combination of in-house and vendor teams and will include identifying the correct model for delivery, ensuring that it is correctly resourced and/or supporting the necessary commercial activity to enable delivery, and then managing the budget and plan to agreed tolerances.
The Head of Apply Delivery is accountable for ensuring all activity is carried out in accordance with the relevant governance processes and are aligned to appropriate architectural guidelines.
The role sits on the Technology Group Senior Management Team and is expected to contribute towards the overall direction of the Group from a technical, commercial and organisational perspective.
How do I apply?
You must have experience leading technical delivery teams delivering multiple simultaneous work streams through the full software delivery life cycle ranging in size from 10s to 1000s of person days, requiring co-ordination with other teams and stakeholders. You will also be experienced in working in a technical IT environment, developing, managing and supporting mission critical system. It is essential you have line management experience covering teams in excess of 20 including experience managing other line managers and are well versed in Stakeholder management and reporting up to senior executive level. Furthermore you will have previously managed budgets in excess of £1m (or equivalent levels of resource) and have worked with vendors to define work, decide on the most appropriate commercial arrangements, and to manage vendor performance. Ideally you will be degree level qualification in a computing, engineering, scientific or mathematical discipline or have equivalent experience.
